If any of you are looking for good solid lyrics that are un-cheesy or rhymy I would suggest one of my favorites a band called Mainstay that hails from the Twin Cities.
They are on BEC/Tooth&Nail records.
They haven't got much radio play here but do on more rock stations like Air1, KLove and the Fish.
They have some great lyrics and a good sound as they have struggled to see the gospel as God centered instead of the man centered gospel that is permeating most evangelical churches. Their lyrics speak to this struggle in their record Well Meaning Fiction.
I've been into them recently.
They also have a new album this fall. If you love Jeremy Camp you will love this next album, Hint, Hint...
Here's the lyrics to one of my favorite Mainstay songs... Take Away
Rid me of the notion that I ever had any rights
Cleanse me of the motives that come in such a clever disguise
Ruin my agenda, holy as it never was
It's all from Your hand
and there's nothing that's mine
and all that You give
You're free to take away
I'm just trying to hold on, clinging to the dream inside
I was only selfish, and you were only part of my life
Every breath, every word
There isn't one thing I deserve
And all that I am is Yours
