I was recently reading some comments on another bloggers site speaking about President Bush.
I try not to get into politics on this site, but tonight I will give in.
I am not just singling out the President here for I have been pretty unimpressed with the entire Republican party of recent years. Currently I am unsure what I will do with my vote in the 2008 election. The abortion issue to me is the determining factor, so rarely do I get to vote on issues beyond that saddly. If that means my taxes get raised and abortion is fought then so be it. I
am not sure that any of the Republican candidates running are true advocates for pro-life policy. Some claim to be against abortion, yet their record is quite unimpressive when it comes to fighting for life. I will not vote for a pro-choice Republican and I would vote for a pro-life democrat if one existed.
Anyways the article I read was about praying for our President. This is something I must do more. Whether it's Bush or Clinton, Obama or McCain they need our prayers.
Nevertheless that is not what I wanted to speak about...
A commentator on this blog commented about the present situation that our President find himself in with very low public support.
Here is the comments...
..."now we have the Libby commutation so that he serves 0 jail time. Paris Hilton got more time and she didn't lie to a grand jury. For all the Republican hand wringing about Clinton not getting time for his perjury, it is ironic that similar outrage does not pass the lips of the these same folks when the President commutes Libby's sentence on the way to his eventual pardon. The President gets a free pass, not because he's right, but because he's a Christian and therefore, "human." Whereas Clinton, presumably, is subhuman since he is a sinner. The Christians who defend this President no matter what he does turn my stomach."
I must say during the Clinton era most on the "right" that I know wanted to see Clinton sentenced for lying under oath about his relationship to Monica the intern, yet all I have heard from talk radio and conservative press about Scooter Libby's lying to the Grand Jury about leaking national security information is either defenseive or totally ignoring the issue all together.
That to me cry's double standard or worse, partisan politics.
If Clinton or any democrat would have done this there would be a huge outcry from the right I am quite sure.
It seems that we give a free pass just because he is a Christian.
VP Cheney can lose his cool time and time again curse at reporters and senators on the senate floor and use foul language in interviews and there is none to little outcry from the "Christians" who put him in office.
If it was Gore doing that in the Clinton White House I would imagine it being a much bigger deal.
We put down the fight for abortion, for stem cells, massive excessive spending as long as he is a "christian". We don't advocate for the unborn if a Republican is in office because he is somehow viewed as friendly. No wonder why so much of the Republican party is leaning more and more toward pro-choice stances.
This is the main reason I so dislike politics.
Maybe you see it differently, but from my limited view it seems like its more about partisan politics than what's really right and wrong.
If you see it different I'd love to hear from you.
